i have my reasons why i´m NOT at facebook or twitter. and if you pin my work on pinterest, please make sure to link it back to me by taking the button on my side: that will bring you to my board with all my art-links. thanks for respecting that.

i consider my blog to be my "artistic diary" - so i can recap what i made and which influences i got (exhibitions etc).

currently i try to publish frequently once in a week (tuesdays mostly)

People with a Google+ account: please leave a direct blog link, otherwise i can´t visit you.

thirty

it has been the coldest january in southern Germany since 1987,
so for 30 years.

but what i did not suppose: i enjoyed it.
because it brought snow that turned not into mud after two days,
the harshness provided a good grip without becoming slippery.
many People were cross-country skiing (not me;)),
but it was good for Walking, too.
super fresh air.
i forgot the dreary days (the glass is half full, you know;)) -
we had quite some sunshine in between.
but cold. always freezing grades.
the nights often with double-Digit minus Celsius grades.

(edit: via Ulrike i came to tabea´s blog with the challenge to Show a view from the same Point throughout the year - twelve photos, one each month. as i come along here quite often on my Walking route, i choose this one to be my first photo...)

time for nice warm Drinks when coming back home...

the last Weekend the sun invited for a last White walk,
as now the temperatures are rising and rain will destroy the White beauty.

steadily my heap of number patches is growing...

and combined with "blank" patches i started sewing some of them together -
the beginning of a new blanket.

all hand-sewn, of course.

Meditation, joy...

  1. I'm in LOVE. I love how the blanket is turning out, how incredible your hand stitch is, and how your winter has been so enjoyable. But, perhaps most of all, I would love to share some of that hot chocolate with you.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful blanket, your great photos, and your hot chocolate with us for T this Tuesday.

  5. It has been very cold here too (I hate having to scrape the car windows in the mornings!), but it has brought some lovely sunrises and sun sets and your photos of the winter scenery are beautiful, Johanna.
Your blanket looks amazing already -it will just be fabulous when it is finished. Jx

  6. Sounds like you are having the perfect weather for quilting. :) Loving your patches and the piece you are making from them. I agree-- snow can be so pretty, when its not brown and dirty and turning to mud. We've turned back to cold temperatures. Its so chilly. Happy T day! Hugs-Erika

  7. Very cool how your numbers are coming together Johanna!
I agree with you about the beauty of snow. A blanket of white transforms everything it touches insulating the normally harsh sounds outdoors. I am still waiting for more than just a snow "shower" here in Virginia. Thank you for sharing your lovely photos!
    Happy T Day oxo
p.s. glass half full YES there is so much to be grateful for

  13. Oh, that snow! I'm glad you were able to enjoy it. We get snow so seldom here, and it often doesn't stick or only lasts through a day. Thx for sharing your pictures :) Happy T Tuesday!

  14. This post is beautifully written, Johanna. It was like reading a poem. You should add poet to your resume ;-)

The quilt is coming along beautifully, too.

    Happy T Day!

  15. It looks very very cold, but beautiful. I love the idea of a blanket with numbers. You're right about hand stitching being meditative. I prefer it over machine stitching. So often when I use the machine, the thread jams, which does not leave me feeling relaxed.

  16. Your blanket looks amazing! I love seeing your snowy photos but I don't think I would enjoy the cold so much! Have great week! Chrisx

  19. Number patches...Brilliant! your creative combinations with fabric and thread are awesome! enjoyed your lovely winter photos, as here in the U.S where I am, it is indeed the muddy grayness you described. Happy T day...on Wednesday! ;)

  20. I am envious as we are having what I think is the warmest winter on record with miserable warmish days and no snow lying on the ground at all.
I therefore love all your wintry photos here with the clear skies of winter.
Again you are doing something different with your textiles, a numbers blanket, what fun and originality.
