i have my reasons why i´m NOT at facebook or twitter. and if you pin my work on pinterest, please make sure to link it back to me by taking the button on my side: that will bring you to my board with all my art-links. thanks for respecting that.

i consider my blog to be my "artistic diary" - so i can recap what i made and which influences i got (exhibitions etc).

currently i try to publish frequently once in a week (mondays/tuesdays mostly)

People with a Google+ account: please leave a direct blog link, otherwise i can´t visit you.

spoilt in the alpine upland

fast and hard changes in temperature are typical for this year´s summer...
(and i actually caught a Little cold for this)
but for my sewing retreat last week the weather was not important at all,
because i knew i would enjoy my days in bad aibling anyway.

the weather turned from cold on friday (aug. 11) to really hot on tuesday (aug. 15),
so after the first day we could sit outside to take our meals.
i´m showing you excerpts of the Food we were spoilt with (tasted superb!)...
pils and Espresso (for Dessert) were mandatory;)

bavarian/italian Antipasti -
salmon on spinach with potatoes and chanterelles

bayr./italienische Antipasti -
lachs auf Spinat mit Kartoffeln und pfifferlingen

roast from Young venison -

we had breakfast buffet, menues à la carte for lunch and dinner
and (if wanted) coffee and cake in the afternoon.
i only opted for cake once (apple cake, below)...
all of it would have been too much really...

~~~~~~~~~
now not to Forget my "Mission":
i wanted to continue on two "works in Progress"...
the first one this woven blanket,
which i started a while ago.
nicht zu vergessen die eigentliche "Mission":
ich wollte an zwei WIPs weiterarbeiten...
zum einen an dieser stoff-gewebten decke,
die ich vor einiger zeit begonnen hatte.
because of the weaving process
(which i have to do when the fabric is spread out flat)
the Piece meanwhile grew to a size i can´t handle really good at home:
there is no table where i could let it lie for a while,
so i thought to take Advantage of the space i had in the workroom.
first i enlarged the strips by adding more of the Cloth
(onion Skin died yellow + old blue Shirt).
wegen des web-Prozesses
(muss ich im flach ausgelegten zustand machen)
lässt sich das teil mittlerweile nicht mehr so einfach handhaben.
ich hab zuhause Probleme (sprich: keinen tisch),
das stück irgendwo eine weile liegen zu lassen.
das ging hier im Arbeitsraum prima.
zuerst hab ich die stoffstreifen verlängert
(die gelben sind zwiebelschalengefärbt,
die blauen von einem alten Hemd).
after two days working on it the piece enlarged to this size:
nach zwei tagen arbeit daran ist es auf diese größe angewachsen:
below i marked the original size (green)
with the two kantha-stitched circles (red)
to see the Progress...
more kantha stitching will follow also
and time will come to continue on this Piece.
i have no Deadline:)
unten hab ich mit grün die vorherige größe markiert
(rot sind die kantha-gestickten kreise)...
weitere kantha-kreise sollen folgen
und es wird eine zeit geben,
wieder an diesem stück zu arbeiten.
hab ja keine Deadline:)
 ~~~~~
there was a second Piece i was working on,
as occasionally i felt my back was hurting
always sitting in the same Position,
so i changed to the other Project in between...

you also already know this one...
the current size is shown above.
i managed to make a lot of new patches,
blank and numbered ones...
adding to this blanket is easier,
as i don´t have to sit at a table therefore.

  1. Sorry to hear about the weather! The setting looks great and so does the food! What does look the very best though is your blanket - you must be so patient to make all those tiny stitches! Happy T Day! Chrisx

  2. Weather extremes can cause havoc with beautiful settings and get-aways. I'm loving the food and ale you shared, as well as the cake and espresso.

    Of course, the beautiful sewing you accomplished is incredible. So glad to realize you have no deadline on this one because it looks like a really difficult piece to finish. The red, white, and blue quilt/blanket is fabulous. If only I could sew by hand. You do it marvelously!

    Thanks for sharing your trip, your wonderful quilts, and your food, ale, and espresso with us for T this Tuesday. Lovely outcome to a week away.

  3. Your retreat looks wonderful! It looks like a beautiful place to stay and wow, you were spoilt with all that amazing food, I bet it tasted delicious 😁. You really did a lot of work while you were there, your woven blanket is huge now and you made so many patches for your other project too 😀. I'm now wondering if you came back with everyone's scraps, I know how you hate to throw anything away 😉. I enjoyed going on the retreat with you, it was so much fun! Wishing you a very Happy T Day! J 😊

  8. I like looking at the care with which the food was plated. 2 blankets? That's a big undertaking. You are making good progress though

  11. I'm going to take a "variety is the spice of life" approach to the weather lol, since what else can I do... I love your setting whatever the temperature, but it is better to be able to be outside in it. Your food photos are wonderful! I want to try all of it!

    Happy T Tuesday

  12. So glad you had a fun and productive retreat, Johanna. They certainly did spoil you with scrumptious food. Everything looks fabulous!

    I had no idea of how large your blue and yellow woven blanket was going to be. That's quite an undertaking. I admire your "no deadline" attitude.

    Happy T-Day! Hugs, Eileen

  14. Your sewing retreat sounds great. It's so fun to work creatively with others who enjoy the same thing. It looks like you have put in a lot of work on both of the pieces you show. I love all the shapes and numbers in the red, white and blue piece. It looks a little like an abstract painting.
